How to Read the Bible
It's a good idea to start with the New Testament. Begin with the Gospel of Luke and continue with Luke's account of the early Christians in the Act of the Apostles. It will give you an overview of the life of Jesus and his followers.
If you are interested in the Old Testament, begin with the first two books of the Bible - Genesis and Exodus - that trace the early history of the Jewish people.
Before you start, read the introductory material at the beginning of each book. It will help to put what you read into a historical perspective and give you an overview of the audience, cultural setting, and literary form. A biblical commentary can also be helpful in understanding the background of the text.
Read each book as a whole. Don't pull out individual phrases and try to attribute meaning to them. Instead, look at the deeper levels of meaning. For example, ask yourself what the scripture says to you personally. Ask yourself what message the writer was trying to convey. Ask yourself how you can respond to this message in your own life. Always examine Scripture in light of Catholic teachings.

The Whole Armor of God
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:11
We are engaged in a spiritual battle - all believers find themselves subject to Satan's attacks because they are no longer on Satan's side.
Thus, Paul tells us to use every piece of God's armor to resist Satan's attacks and to stand true to God in the midst of those attacks.
Piece of armor - Belt = Truth
Satan fights with lies, and sometimes his lies sound like truth; but only believers have God's truth, which can defeat Satan's lies.
Piece of armor - Breastplate = Righteousness
Satan often attacks our hearts - the seat of our emotions, self-worth, and trust. God's righteousness is the breastplate that protects our hearts and ensures his approval. He approves of us because he loves us and sent his Son to die for us.
Piece of armor - Footgear = Readiness to spread the Good News of the gospel.
Satan wants us to think that telling others the Good News is a worthless and hopeless task - the size of the task is too big and the negative responses are too much to handle. But the footgear God gives us is the motivation to continue to proclaim the true peace that is available in God - news everyone needs to hear.
Piece of armor - Shield = Faith
What we see are Satan's attacks in the form of insults, setbacks, and temptations. But the shield of faith protects us from Satan's fiery darts. With God's perspective, we can see beyond our circumstances and know that ultimate victory is ours.
Piece of armor - Helmet = Salvation
Satan wants to make us doubt God, Jesus, and our salvation. The helmet protects our minds from doubting God's saving work for us.
Piece of armor - Sword = The Spirit, the word of God
The sword is the only weapon of offense in the list of armor. There are times when we need to take the offensive against Satan. When we are tempted, we need to trust in the truth of God's Word.

Why Join a Mens Group
Am I a man who is searching for something ?
Am I a Catholic Man who has fallen away from the Catholic Church and wants to know more about why he should come back?
Am I a man who works 60-80 hours per week, with a wife and children at home trying to support them, and does not have time for God ?
Am I someone who appears to have everything, but feels like he has nothing…something is missing in my life?
Am I a man who is strong for everyone else, but does not know where I can go for the source of my strength?
Am I a man who is so badly broken mentally and spiritually and does not know where to go for healing or how to be healed?
Am I really the HEAD (Spiritual) of my household or do I delegate that to my wife?
Am I a man who is just searching for meaning in life, for truth or purpose?
Am I a man who is struggling with addictions to drugs, sex, alcohol and pornography and doesn’t know how to get out ?
Am I a man that just wants to come HOME, like the Prodigal son. A man who is tired of running, tired of being sick and tired and just wants to come home to His Father?
If you answered YES to all, some or even one of these questions then you should be part of a Men's Group.

Man of Valor
A MAN OF VALOR IS...
- A man of valor is man enough to admit his faults and take ownership of his sins.
- A man of valor is faithful to his commitments and keeps his word and promises.
- A man of valor perseveres in difficult tasks or under adversity, even when he may not receive recognition or appreciation.
- A man of valor is loyal to his friends even when this loyalty may cost him dearly.
- A man of valor recognizes that he is not always self-sufficient and that he needs the support of other friends.
- A man of valor is bold when required but also uses restraint and discretion when they are needed.
- A man of valor overcomes his fear of evangelizing and is willing to share the Gospel with others if an opportunity arises.
- A man of valor enthusiastically serves his family, even if he is worn out from a hard day at work.
- A man of valor is willing to put his flesh to death and exercise self-control over his thoughts, words, eyes, and actions.
- A man of valor is a man of prayer. He knows that God is with him, and he recognizes his dependence on God and his own limitations apart from God. "Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5).
